Pakistan’s transportation and communications networks are inadequate, especially in comparison to the size of the country. Following the partition of India, Pakistan inherited a large and poorly maintained network. The Punjab and Sind Railway, with its main line stretching from Karachi to Lahore was considered one of the best rail systems at that time. After partition however, there was an immediate need for Pakistan Railways (PR) to expand its operations by laying new tracks in order to handle increased traffic levels across the country due mainly to migration caused by partition itself as well as refugees coming into Pakistan from India which resulted in millions of people having nowhere else but their new home country (Pakistan) where they could start their lives again free from any issues or difficulties they might have faced in India such as language barriers etc…

The road system is poor and extremely inadequate for a country as large as Pakistan. There are few all-weather roads except those in Multan-Lahore corridor which connects major cities like Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala with Lahore (the capital city). The other roads are mainly metaled or graveled but they do not provide any kind of facility to vehicles during rains or after heavy downpour due to water logging problems due to lack of proper drainage facilities along these routes.
